Texans For Climate Change Action was established on November 19, 2016, at Rice University. Spurred by a presidential election that saw the rise of a climate change denier to the White House, and motivated by the shared belief that climate change is one of the biggest threats to humanity, students at Rice University were motivated to form a group to push for action on climate change.
We are committed to urging the community, our representatives, and our officials to embrace carbon-free energy sources while scaling down fossil fuel usage. We encourage ever-increasing energy efficiency, a reduction and eventual elimination of harmful pollutant emissions from chemical plants and manufacturing, and dialogue about climate change at the community level. Despite the fact that this topic has become highly politicized, we act on the fact that climate science is objective.
While drastic change is needed to combat the worst effects of climate change, we understand that progress must be made that works for everyone. We are committed to working with officials at all levels to create common sense, reasonable, and effective legislation to combat pollution and climate change to contribute to cleaner air, a better climate, and healthier citizens.
